“… I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison,
and ye came unto me.” – Matthew 25:36
For over a quarter of a century, Justice & Mercy’s Co-founder, Dr. Tom Zeager has been advocating for justice, correction over punishment, prison reform, education and restoration.
What began as an assignment has transformed into the compassionate quest for mercy and justice. Today Justice & Mercy, Inc. - a trusted faith-based 501(c)(3) organization, continues the advances of prison reform in Pennsylvania by meeting with public officials, attending prison board meetings, publishing periodicals and hosting events that increase awareness and educate the community with the goal of changing the criminal justice system for the better. Justice & Mercy serves those criminally impacted and their families by providing a better understanding of the criminal justice system operations and in the process opens the door for hope.
Justice & Mercy has partnered with Kerby Keller, a devout Christian who is serving a life sentence in a Pennsylvania State Prison. We believe the message within the text of Bryan Stevenson's book titled “Just Mercy” is an accurate portrayal to understand the plight of children and adults who are improperly adjudicated under false testimony in America.
“As I read through this book about the unbelievable injustices that have occurred in criminal justice systems I began to see some familiarity to situations I have witnessed and heard about from men during my 27 years of incarceration.” – Kerby Keller
In Matthew 25:36, Jesus says, “I was in prison and ye came unto me.” Justice & Mercy goes to prison to help inmates understand the criminal justice system and what options they have. We sit down with inmates one-on-one to listen to their plight. This is often the only chance most inmates have at getting help because of the way our system is set up. We sit with inmates in a dark place, at a dark time in their life where confusion is the norm. We show up as the salt and the light to help guide the least of these, and we are asking you to show up with us through financial and prayer support. — Dr. Tom Zeager
